Keyword density is the percentage of times a target keyword appears in your content relative to the total word count.
Formula:
(keyword occurrences / total words) × 100
The Right Percentage
Most SEO professionals recommend a keyword density of 1–2%. Going above 3% risks keyword stuffing penalties from search engines.
Using Bigrams and Trigrams

- 3-word phrases (trigrams) — useful for identifying long-tail keyword patterns
Stop Words
Stop words like the, and, of carry little meaning and inflate density numbers. Toggle Hide stop words in the keyword panel to focus on meaningful terms only.
Practical Workflow
1. Write your content naturally first.
2. Paste it into the word counter.
3. Check the top keywords panel — your primary keyword should appear in the top 3.
4. If density is above 2%, replace some occurrences with synonyms.
