Why Character Limits Exist
Every platform imposes character limits to keep content concise and to fit within their UI design constraints.
Platform Limits at a Glance
| Platform | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Twitter / X | 280 characters | Links count as 23 chars |
| Meta description | 160 characters | Google truncates at ~155 |
| Facebook | 220 characters | Text beyond this is hidden behind "See More" |
| SMS | 160 characters | Goes to 2 segments above 160 |
| LinkedIn post | 3 000 characters | First 210 chars show before "See more" |
How to Use the Limits Panel
Our word counter shows a live progress bar for each platform. The bar turns:
- Green — well within the limit
- Yellow — approaching the limit (85%+)
- Red — over the limit
Writing for Multiple Platforms
A common workflow is to write a longer piece first, then use the character counters to create trimmed versions for each platform.
